Practical Life Skills: Toddlers
Milestones for Children from Eighteen-Months to Thirty-Months-Old
Course Description
This workshop explores how educators can intentionally introduce developmentally appropriate practical life skills for toddlers. Rather than simply completing daily tasks for children, participants will learn how to encourage toddlers to become active participants in their own care, their environment, and their classroom community. The workshop examines the developmental importance of practical life experiences and explores skills related to self-help, personal care and hygiene, care of the environment, food preparation, social responsibility, daily routines, and fine motor development.
Through practical examples, real-life scenarios, and activity demonstrations, participants will explore how meaningful everyday experiences can foster independence, confidence, coordination, and a sense of belonging. Educators will also examine the important role adults play in supporting growing independence through patience, observation, intentional language, appropriate guidance, and thoughtfully prepared environments that allow toddlers to learn through participation, repetition, and practice.
