Course Description

This workshop explores how educators can intentionally introduce developmentally appropriate practical life skills for children up to eighteen months old. Rather than simply teaching children how to complete a task, participants will learn how to encourage infants to become active participants in their own care, their environment, and their community. The workshop examines realistic expectations for infant learners and explores practical skills related to daily routines, self-help, personal care, care of the environment, food preparation, social responsibility, and fine motor development.

Through practical examples and activity demonstrations, participants will explore how thoughtfully prepared environments and appropriate developmental goals can create meaningful opportunities for even very young children to participate. Educators will also examine the important role adults and families play in supporting growing independence through modelling, consistency, patience, encouragement, and intentional environments.
