Course Description

This comprehensive educator onboarding provides new childcare professionals with a foundational understanding of the policies, procedures, expectations, and professional responsibilities required to work safely and effectively within an early learning and childcare environment. Designed as a structured introduction to the organization, the onboarding supports educators as they become familiar with their classroom, daily routines, centre operations, communication systems, and responsibilities related to the care, supervision, learning, and well-being of children.

Participants will be introduced to essential classroom procedures, including attendance and health checks, safe arrival and dismissal practices, classroom routines, ratio requirements, transitions, outdoor play, rest periods, mealtimes, diapering, toileting, and the care of children’s personal belongings. The onboarding emphasizes the importance of active supervision, accurate headcounts, consistent routines, teamwork, and ongoing awareness of the number and individual needs of the children in an educator’s care.

The onboarding provides practical guidance on using documentation software’s to complete attendance records, communication logs, food and sleep documentation, diapering records, illness and incident reports, medication forms, shift responsibilities, photographs, and repair requests. Participants will learn how accurate and timely documentation supports regulatory compliance, effective communication with families and colleagues, continuity of care, and professional accountability throughout the day.

Participants will also explore key health, safety, and child-development practices, including infection prevention, cleaning and disinfecting procedures, hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, food safety, allergy and food-restriction management, medication administration, illness response, and individualized health and support plans. Additional topics include emergency procedures, duty to report, safe supervision, prohibited child-guidance practices, positive behaviour support, conflict resolution, responding to parent concerns, and maintaining respectful professional boundaries.

Participants will learn how to implement child-directed and adult-supported programming, engage as co-learners, establish positive relationships with children and families, prepare meaningful learning experiences, and contribute to welcoming, inclusive, and engaging classroom environments.

By the end of the onboarding, participants will have developed a strong foundational understanding of the expectations, systems, procedures, and professional practices that support their success within the organization. Participants will recognize that effective childcare practice extends beyond completing daily tasks, it requires consistent supervision, sound judgment, teamwork, responsive caregiving, accurate communication, and a shared commitment to providing safe, healthy, inclusive, and high-quality early learning experiences for every child and family.
